Egypt and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have explored fresh co-operation venues in food security and logistics infrastructure, including the establishment and development of an integrated logistics hub for grain, Egypt’s Supply Minister Sherif Farouk said.
Farouk held discussions on Tuesday with a visiting EIB delegation led by Ulrich H. Brunnhuber, Head of Operations for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The delegation started today a three-day visit to Cairo.
The meeting discussed co-operation priorities with a number of Egyptian ministries and government bodies, and followed up ongoing projects and discuss projects proposed for implementation in 2027.
In addition, it reviewed existing co-operation between the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and the EIB, as well as ways to develop it in the coming period.
The two sides also addressed a number of priority projects in food security and logistics infrastructure aimed at supporting the state’s efforts to secure citizens’ needs and improve the efficiency of systems for handling and storing strategic commodities.
The discussions also covered opportunities to establish and develop an integrated logistics hub for grain, which would support food security, increase storage capacity and improve the efficiency of commodity handling, transport and storage. The two sides also discussed the EIB’s potential support and financing for the project in line with their joint co-operation priorities.
The minister stressed the importance of directing co-operation with the EIB towards projects with a direct and sustainable impact on food security, while improving logistics infrastructure and commodity-handling systems.
For their part, the EIB delegation affirmed the bank’s keenness to continue and strengthen co-operation with the Egyptian government and support projects aligned with Egypt’s development priorities. It also discussed opportunities for co-operation in food security and logistics infrastructure, as well as following up on existing projects and examining new projects proposed for the coming period.
