Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Swailem and State Information Service (SIS) Chairman Alaa Youssef discussed ways to strengthen coordination in the media field to support Egypt’s media messaging on water issues at the local, regional and international levels.
During the meeting, Swailem underscored the central importance of water to national security and sustainable development, stressing the need to present information and facts related to Egypt’s water resources to the public clearly and accurately, while highlighting the state’s efforts to manage its water resources and maximise their use.
Swailem also stressed the importance of developing media messaging on water issues to raise public awareness of the need to conserve water and use it efficiently, as well as to highlight the water challenges facing Egypt and the projects and measures being implemented in water resources management, water treatment and reuse, rehabilitation of water facilities, digital transformation and climate change adaptation.
The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen media coordination at the regional and international levels to support the presentation of Egypt’s position on various water issues, highlight its efforts to promote water co-operation with Arab and African countries and support development efforts in the Nile Basin countries, as well as enhance Egypt’s presence at international forums focusing on water, climate and sustainable development.
The meeting also addressed the importance of leveraging the SIS’s capabilities and expertise in communicating with local and international media and providing accurate information and data on water issues. This would help present a comprehensive picture of Egypt’s position and national efforts to address water challenges and strengthen effective communication with the media and relevant stakeholders.
