Egypt and India discussed strengthening co-operation in artificial intelligence (AI), digital skills, cybersecurity, innovation, and entrepreneurship during a meeting in Cairo on Friday, Egypt’s Communications Ministry said.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy received India’s Ambassador to Egypt, Suresh K. Reddy, to review existing co-operation and ways to attract more Indian investment to Egypt’s technology sector, particularly in outsourcing and electronics manufacturing.
Hendy said co-operation between the two countries in information and communications technology was expanding, and called for closer collaboration in digital capacity-building and AI.
Egypt’s strategic location and large pool of qualified young technology professionals made it a potential gateway for Indian companies seeking to expand into African and Middle Eastern markets, he said.
Reddy said India was keen to encourage its companies to invest in Egypt. He noted that India, the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, is due to host a global mobile industry conference in October.
The discussions also covered training, knowledge transfer, research and development, advanced skills, cybersecurity and the responsible use of the AI, the ministry said.
The two sides agreed on the importance of expanding co-operation between Egyptian and Indian private-sector companies to support startups, innovation and small and medium-sized enterprises.
They also discussed encouraging Egyptian companies and institutions to participate in specialised international events and exhibitions held in India.
