Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk met with World Food Programme (WFP) Acting Executive Director Carl Skau on Tuesday to discuss means to expand co-operation on food subsidies and food security.
Farouk said Egypt was working to reform and improve its subsidy system, ensuring that support reaches eligible citizens efficiently while strengthening access to essential food commodities, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
The talks focused on using data and market indicators to assess policies, monitor the impact of subsidy programmes and boost institutional and technical capacities.
The two sides also discussed developing a reference food basket for Egyptian consumers, as well as analysing food prices and household purchasing power to support evidence-based policymaking.
Skau welcomed continued WFP support for Egypt’s efforts to strengthen food security, nutrition and social protection.
