Egypt is committed to boosting co-operation with Singapore, providing support and exchanging expertise in the health sector, and following up on progress in previous joint projects, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said.
Abdel Ghaffar made the remarks during a meeting on Monday with Singaporean Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim and his accompanying delegation. The two sides discussed ways to enhance co-operation in areas of mutual interest, foremost among them developing a plan to provide humanitarian and relief assistance to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
Health Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the meeting aimed to establish a clear mechanism for delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians, building on Egypt’s efforts to support the people of Gaza since the outbreak of the conflict.
The two sides discussed co-operation in providing medical supplies, medicines, food and other essential relief materials to Gaza through Egypt.
They also discussed the possibility of establishing a humanitarian and medical aid centre in Al-Arish to serve as a logistical and medical hub for Gaza, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Other areas of co-operation included emergency medical support and capacity building.
The two sides agreed to develop a mechanism for sending Egyptian training missions to Singapore in emergency medical services, which would help strengthen Egypt’s ambulance system.
For his part, the Singaporean minister praised Egypt’s efforts and leading role in supporting the Palestinian people during the crisis, as well as its co-operation with friendly countries in support of the Palestinian cause. He also said Egypt has a clear vision for developing and advancing its healthcare sector.
