Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi said upgrading the oil sector’s infrastructure is a key priority for strengthening energy security and improving the competitiveness of Egypt’s economy.
He said efforts will focus on modernising refineries, improving crude oil and petroleum product transport networks, and expanding storage and handling capacity.
Badawi made the remarks on Saturday during the general assemblies of the Petroleum Pipelines Company and the Assiut Oil Refining Company to approve their 2025/2026 financial-year results.
The minister also highlighted close co-ordination between the petroleum and electricity sectors in securing fuel supplies for power plants. He said the co-operation helped maintain grid stability and meet energy needs across the country during the summer amid record-high electricity demand.
Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat praised the petroleum sector’s efforts to secure the fuel needed to operate power plants. He said co-ordination between the two ministries helped ensure stable electricity supplies despite peak demand on the national grid exceeding 40,000 megawatts.
Badawi stressed that expanding Egypt’s refining capacity remains a strategic priority. He called for accelerating ongoing projects and developing production units to make optimal use of current and future crude oil output.
Badawi also highlighted that occupational health and safety is a shared responsibility for all employees and managers, not just safety departments. He called for full compliance with workplace safety procedures and continued expansion of training and awareness programmes, describing worker safety and a secure working environment as non-negotiable priorities.
