Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny inaugurated the 4th Medical Conference of EgyptAir Hospital, an event organised by EgyptAir Medical Services that brought together prominent aviation leaders, university deans, and medical experts.
The conference highlighted the integration of medicine and aviation, emphasising emergency preparedness, digital transformation, and scientific research.
During the event Chairman of the General Authority for Accreditation and Healthcare Regulation (GAHAR) Ahmed Taha officially presented EgyptAir Hospital with its renewed GAHAR accreditation certificate, recognising its strict adherence to global standards in quality, patient safety, and pharmaceutical care.
A central focus of the conference was EgyptAir’s pioneering role in high-tech aviation medicine.
The national carrier announced the launch of its new Remote Patient Monitoring Project, making it the first airline in the world to offer continuous real-time monitoring of passengers’ vital signs during flights.
Utilising advanced digital solutions and artificial intelligence, the system feeds critical health data directly to specialised medical teams on the ground, allowing for early detection of health changes and rapid emergency response mid-air.
Demonstrating this operational capability, EgyptAir recently completed a historic medical evacuation by transporting an Egyptian passenger in a deep coma and on a mechanical ventilator from Riyadh to Cairo. In coordination with EgyptAir Hospital, the flight crew assembled a fully equipped, intensive care unit on board the commercial aircraft.
This world-first international airline initiative provided complete intensive care transport at just 15% of the traditional cost, reinforcing EgyptAir’s commitment to innovation and passenger well-being.
El-Hefny and key leadership, including EgyptAir Holding Chairman Ahmed Adel and EgyptAir Medical Services Chairman Dr Ayman Salah, reiterated that robust medical infrastructure is fundamental to civil aviation operations.
Recent upgrades at EgyptAir Hospital include an expanded emergency department, an advanced intravenous compounding unit, and modernised electronic health records. Moving forward, the institution continues to expand its international standings, building on its medical tourism accreditations while fostering research and clinical training partnerships across Cairo University and Kasr El-Aini Faculty of Medicine.
