Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s full support for efforts to combat terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel, calling for a comprehensive approach that combines security and development to address the threat.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call with Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop on Saturday, during which they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and the latest developments in the Sahel region.
The Egyptian foreign minister praised the strong ties between Egypt and Mali, affirming Cairo’s keenness to further advance bilateral relations and expand co-operation across various fields.
He also highlighted Egypt’s support for efforts aimed at combating terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel. He stressed the need to adopt a comprehensive approach that addresses both the security and development dimensions of the challenge.
Such an approach, Abdelatty said, would contribute to boosting security and stability in the Sahel region and across the African continent.
The two ministers also exchanged views on ways to promote stability, security and peace and advance development across Africa.
They agreed to enhance coordination at both bilateral and multilateral levels and build on the existing political and development momentum in a way that serves their shared interests and contributes to supporting stability and development across the African continent.
