Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Admiral Osama Rabie, received a delegation of ambassadors from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) at the authority’s headquarters in Ismailia to discuss co-operation and the exchange of expertise in various development fields.

The delegation included ambassadors from 10 African countries: Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Mozambique and Tanzania.

Rabie welcomed the ambassadors and highlighted the Canal’s distinctive development experience in its cities, as well as its extensive expertise both in Egypt and abroad.

He also pointed to previous co-operation with Arab and African partners, including the redevelopment and reopening of Libya’s Sirte Port after 14 years of closure, as well as an agreement with Namibia’s Ports Authority on port modelling and technical training.

Tanzanian Ambassador Tuble M. Lubaya expressed the delegation’s interest in exploring potential areas of co-operation, noting that the SCA already has partnerships with Namibia and Zambia.

He described the Suez Canal as a cornerstone of Egypt’s economic development and a globally strategic waterway, making it an ideal platform for economic co-operation.

The visit also included a tour of the Suez Canal Aquaculture Company, where the ambassadors inspected fish and shrimp farming ponds, as well as a fish packaging and processing plant.
