Cairo, Moscow seek stronger co-operation in religious affairs
Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Osama Al-Azhari praised the Russian Federation’s official attention to its Muslim population and institutions, stressing the broad prospects for cooperation between Egypt and Russia in religious training and scholarly publications.
Speaking during a meeting with Moscow Mufti Ildar Alauddinov on the sidelines of the 11th International Conference of the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta in Cairo, Al-Azhari expressed appreciation for the Russian state’s high-level care for Muslims and its efforts to establish mosques and scientific centres, including the Moscow Mosque and the Bulgarian Academy.
Sisi welcomes Chinese president, first lady to GEM
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Mrs Entissar El-Sisi accompanied Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan on a tour of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on Wednesday, as part of the Chinese president’s official visit to Egypt.
Presidency Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy said President El-Sisi and Mrs El-Sisi welcomed President Xi and Mrs Peng upon their arrival at the museum.
FM offers condolences to Jordan over South Sinai bus accident
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aaty held a phone call on Wednesday with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi to offer Egypt’s condolences following a passenger bus accident on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in South Sinai.
The accident resulted in a number of deaths and injuries.
PM reviews measures to regulate real estate market
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has directed officials to compile a comprehensive list of stalled real estate projects, identify the causes of delays and determine responsibility, as part of efforts to regulate the real estate market and implement President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to protect citizens’ contractual rights.
He also stressed the need to ensure compliance with contracts, prevent delays in unit delivery and ensure that developers fulfil their obligations, while proposing solutions that safeguard citizens’ rights and encourage investment.
EU to hit back at Russia after drone attack
European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen vowed on Wednesday to increase pressure on Russia, including with new sanctions, after an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany that she said showed Moscow’s growing “recklessness”.
Airport workers last month found a drone laden with explosives and a detonator at the airport, an important civilian freight and NATO logistics hub in eastern Germany that is also a base for several giant Ukrainian Antonov An-124 cargo planes.
