Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, has stressed the importance of pursuing diplomatic and negotiating efforts and prioritising dialogue to contain tensions, prevent the expansion of regional conflicts, and safeguard regional and international security and stability.

Abdelatty held phone talks on Sunday with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Sunday. The two ministers discussed ways to further strengthen Egyptian-German relations, as well as a number of regional issues of mutual concern.

Regarding developments related to the Iranian issue, Abdelatty underscored the need to maintain the diplomatic and negotiating track and give priority to dialogue as the best means of containing tensions, promoting de-escalation and preventing the conflict from spreading.

On the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s established position on the current developments, stressing the need to intensify international efforts to halt the escalation and reject any attempts to undermine the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

He also emphasised the importance of preserving the territorial unity of the Palestinian territories and empowering the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities.

Turning to bilateral relations, Abdelatty praised the longstanding and distinguished Egyptian-German partnership and the growing momentum it has gained across various fields. He reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to further advance the partnership and expand bilateral co-operation, particularly in the economic, trade, investment and energy sectors, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

For his part, Wadephul praised the positive momentum in relations between the two friendly countries and Egypt’s role in promoting security and stability, supporting de-escalation and advancing peaceful solutions to regional crises.
