Egypt strongly condemned the targeting of ships in the Red Sea, including the Yemeni‑owned commercial vessel Tihama flying the Tanzanian flag near Bab al‑Mandeb on Tuesday, August 11, and the Saudi oil tanker, which was attacked on 25 July 2026.

The Foreign Ministry described the incidents as a serious threat to maritime security and reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any acts that endanger civilian ships or international navigation. Cairo reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation in international waterways to protect global trade and supply chains in line with international law and the UN Charter.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport issued a clarification regarding reports linking the vessel TIHAMA to Egypt. It said, the vessel Tihama, sails under the Tanzanian flag and is owned by a Yemeni national, noting that its operating company, Blue Sea for Management Marine is managed through its Dubai branch. The company is not registered in Egypt’s shipping chambers and holds no licence to operate as a maritime agency in Egypt. The ministry stressed that the vessel has never entered Egyptian ports, was not en route to Egypt, and was not carrying any belonging to Egyptian interests.

The ministry stressed its ongoing commitment to monitoring all developments related to Egyptian territorial waters and the security and safety of the Mediterranean and Red Seas, as well as the safety and security of Egyptian companies, vessels, and sailors.

It urged all media outlets to obtain accurate information from official sources at the relevant Egyptian authorities.

This dual response underscores Egypt’s commitment to protecting maritime security, upholding international law, and countering misinformation about its role in Red Sea incidents.
