Egypt’s petroleum minister on Monday reviewed the operational status of the country’s natural gas network and supply plans for the second half of the summer, the ministry said.

Minister Karim Badawi inspected operations from the control centre of state-owned gas company GASCO, monitoring supplies to power plants, industrial facilities and other domestic consumers, as well as export commitments.

The minister was reassured that gas deliveries to power stations were proceeding regularly to support stable electricity supplies amid high temperatures. He also reviewed supplies to industry to ensure factories continue operating at full capacity.

Badawi said the government was implementing integrated, preventive plans to secure domestic gas needs and respond flexibly to changes in consumption, while maintaining a high level of readiness for emergencies.

State measures, including the deployment of floating regasification vessels, gas shipments, increased domestic production and advance supply planning, had helped meet domestic demand efficiently during the first half of the summer, he said.

He called for continued coordination between the petroleum and electricity sectors and other relevant authorities to ensure energy supplies remain secure in the coming period. Authorities will continue to monitor the gas network, consumption rates and supplies in real time, the ministry said.
