President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi held a phone call on Wednesday with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to convey Egypt’s full solidarity with Greece in facing the consequences of the devastating wildfires. The President extended heartfelt condolences for the loss of pilots and firefighters who died heroically while combating the blazes, and affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all possible support to assist Greek authorities in containing the fires.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a reflection of the historic and fraternal ties binding the Egyptian and Greek peoples, and commended the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El‑Shenawynoted that the call also reaffirmed the strategic nature of Egyptian‑Greek relations, with both leaders committed to building on the momentum achieved in recent years. Discussions covered cooperation in energy, electricity interconnection, investment and trade, with President Sisi welcoming progress in the EU‑backed electricity link project as a strategic step for energy security and Mediterranean economic integration. The two leaders also praised ongoing collaboration in labour and migration.

The conversation addressed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including developments in the Middle East. Both sides stressed the importance of a peaceful settlement between the United States and Iran to reduce tensions and preserve Arab sovereignty and regional stability. President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts, in coordination with mediators, to uphold the Gaza ceasefire and ensure humanitarian aid delivery, urging greater international and European support to alleviate suffering in the Strip.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis valued Egypt’s vision of prioritisingpolitical and peaceful solutions to crises, and affirmed Greece’s keenness to continue close consultation with Egypt on regional and international issues. President Sisi underlined theimportance of sustained coordination to serve security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
