Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam reviewed progress on the ministry’s digital transformation initiatives, aiming at improving water resources management, as part of the second-generation Water System 2.0 strategy.
During a meeting on Tuesday with senior ministry officials, Sewilam said expanding the use of digital technologies is central to the ministry’s efforts to build a modern, technology-driven institutional framework that enhances water governance, improves resource efficiency, and delivers higher-quality services to citizens and investors.
He highlighted several flagship digital projects, including the implementation of digital twins for irrigation canals and networks, the use of artificial intelligence and real-time telemetry systems for water distribution, the digitisation of private irrigation channels, and the development of digital platforms and decision-support systems.
The minister directed officials to accelerate the rollout of digital transformation projects, strengthen integration among databases and information systems, and continue developing staff capabilities to support data-driven decision-making, optimise water use, and achieve the objectives of the Water System 2.0 initiative.
