Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati met on Friday Kenyan Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to discuss ways of boosting the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Second Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in Kampala.
Abdel-Aati stressed Egypt’s keenness to build on the current momentum in bilateral ties and expand economic, trade and investment co-operation.
He also encouraged Egyptian companies to take advantage of promising investment opportunities in the Kenyan market, highlighting Egypt’s extensive experience in implementing development projects across Africa.
The two sides also discussed preparations for convening the eighth session of the Egyptian-Kenyan Joint Commission.
The meeting addressed developments in the Horn of Africa and across the continent, with both sides stressing the importance of continuing to work with international partners to mobilise adequate and sustainable funding for AUSSOM.
The two sides also underscored the need for continued coordination and consultation between Egypt and Kenya within the African Union and other regional and international forums, with the aim of promoting peace, security and stability while supporting development and greater African integration.
