Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid held talks with Omar El-Sahy, General Manager of Amazon Egypt, to review the company’s expansion strategy and investment opportunities in the Egyptian market. Discussions focused on enhancing the business environment, supporting digital economy growth and positioning Egypt as a regional hub for e-commerce and technology services.
Farid stressed the ministry’s commitment to removing obstacles for investors and fostering a competitive business climate, while enabling Egyptian companies to access global markets through digital platforms. He highlighted the government’s approach of continuous dialogue with business leaders to balance investment support with regulatory frameworks.
El-Sahy outlined Amazon’s growing investments in Egypt, including logistics and operational infrastructure, and emphasised the strategic importance of the Egyptian market for regional expansion. He noted that Amazon’s customer service centre in Egypt provides multilingual support to international markets such as Africa and Mexico, strengthening Egypt’s role in cross-border digital services and creating quality jobs for youth.
He also presented initiatives to help Egyptian manufacturers and businesses reach global customers via e-commerce platforms, reaffirming Amazon’s commitment to expanding cooperation with government bodies to boost exports and leverage digital transformation tools.
The meeting addressed regulatory and legislative issues related to Amazon’s operations, with Farid assuring coordination with relevant authorities to maintain stability and investor confidence. Both sides agreed to continue close engagement to support Amazon’s expansion in Egypt and empower local companies to access international markets.
