Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a phone call on Sunday with his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional developments.

The two ministers reaffirmed the longstanding historical and people-to-people ties between Egypt and Tunisia, welcoming the continued growth in bilateral relations.

They also praised the outcomes of the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee, held in Cairo last September.

The ministers stressed the importance of implementing the committee’s recommendations and building on the agreements reached to further boost economic, trade, and investment co-operation. Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding ties with Tunisia across a wide range of sectors.

On regional developments, the Egyptian foreign minister briefed his Tunisian counterpart on Cairo’s diplomatic contacts with regional and international parties amid the rapidly evolving situation in the region. He outlined Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions, contain the crisis, and promote regional peace and stability.

Abdel-Aati reiterated Egypt’s call for an immediate halt to all military operations, stressing the need to prioritise political and diplomatic solutions while intensifying Arab co-ordination and consultations to safeguard the region’s security and stability.

On Libya, Abdel-Aati welcomed the outcomes of the Tripartite Neighbouring Countries Mechanism meeting on Libya, hosted by Cairo on 21 May. He stressed the importance of holding the mechanism’s meetings on a regular basis as a key platform for co-ordinating the positions of Libya’s neighbouring countries. He said the mechanism plays an important role in supporting Libya’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national institutions, and long-term security and stability.
