Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause.

During a meeting on Sunday with a delegation from the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, headed by the Committee’s Chair, Mr Coly Seck, on the sidelines of the Jerusalem Conference in Cairo, the minister also stressed that Egypt’s support for the Palestinian cause remains a cornerstone of efforts to achieve security and stability across the Middle East.

The conference was jointly organised by the UN Committee and the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, said the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallf.

He added that the minister underlined, during the meeting, the importance of implementing the US President’s peace plan, stressing that lasting regional peace and stability can only be achieved through the restoration of the Palestinian people’s full legitimate and inalienable rights.

Minister Abdel-Aati also condemned the continuing Israeli violations in the West Bank, including settlement expansion and the confiscation of Palestinian land, as well as repeated infringements against religious sites in the occupied Palestinian territories.

He called on the UN Committee to continue its vital role in mobilising international support within the United Nations to increase pressure on the occupying authorities to comply with international law.

He further reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause or forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their land.

For their part, the Chair and members of the UN Committee expressed their deep appreciation for Egypt’s longstanding and pivotal role in defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and supporting their cause in international forums.
