Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati held a telephone conversation on Monday with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud as part of ongoing consultation and coordination between the two brotherly countries on bilateral relations and regional developments.

The two ministers welcomed the continued momentum in Egyptian-Saudi relations across a wide range of sectors under the guidance of the leadership of both countries.

They commended the steady progress in bilateral co-operation and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening coordination in support of the common interests of the Egyptian and Saudi peoples.

The conversation also focused on the latest regional developments, with the two ministers strongly condemning the repeated Iranian attacks targeting several brotherly Arab countries, including the Gulf states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

They stressed that such attacks constitute a flagrant violation of state sovereignty and pose a serious threat to regional security and stability. In this context, the ministers underscored the need for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions that could further widen the conflict.

Abdel-Aati and Prince Faisal also stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, ensuring the security and safety of international maritime navigation and the uninterrupted flow of commercial shipping.

They further rejected any attempts to restrict passage through international waterways, warning of the potentially serious consequences for global trade, the world economy and energy security.

The ministers also exchanged views on regional efforts aimed at de-escalation, highlighting the regional quartet comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan as an important mechanism for consultation, coordination and support for initiatives to contain tensions and reinforce regional peace and stability.

The call also covered developments in Sudan, Libya and the Red Sea, with both ministers reaffirming the importance of maintaining close consultation and coordination on regional issues of mutual concern in support of security and stability across the region.
