Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, met UNESCO Director‑General Khaled El‑Enany in Paris on Tuesday to discuss strengthening cooperation on cultural heritage preservation, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting, attended by Egypt’s ambassador to France Tarek Dahroug, focused on ongoing and future joint projects between Egypt and the UN cultural agency, particularly efforts to safeguard and conserve Egypt’s archaeological heritage.
Fathy is in Paris for an official visit that includes a series of meetings with major French tour operators and airlines. The talks aim to boost tourist flows from France, one of Egypt’s most important European markets, according to the ministry.
During the talks with UNESCO, both sides underlined the importance of continuing close collaboration in protecting antiquities, supporting capacity‑building programmes, and promoting sustainable and cultural tourism as a driver of development that reflects the depth of Egypt’s civilisation and its contribution to global heritage.
