Egyptian scientific publishing achieved a new milestone after Clarivate’s 2025 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) included 60 Egyptian journals in its global database, reflecting the growing international visibility and quality of the country’s research output, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced on Wednesday.
According to the report, eight Egyptian journals were ranked in the top quartile (Q1), while 11 were placed in Q2, 12 in Q3, and 27 in Q4. Two additional journals were indexed without a quartile classification.
The journals covered 39 scientific disciplines, ranging from medicine, health sciences and pharmacy to engineering, technology, agriculture, environmental and biological sciences, veterinary medicine, economics, business administration, political science, archaeology and heritage studies.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa welcomed the strong performance of journals published by Egyptian universities and research institutions, noting that several had secured positions in the highest-impact categories.
He said the achievement reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Egypt’s research ecosystem, promote high-quality international publishing and increase the global influence of Egyptian academic institutions.
Ministry spokesperson Adel Abdel Ghaffar said the growing number of Egyptian journals included in Clarivate reports demonstrates the success of initiatives aimed at improving research quality, expanding international scientific cooperation and enhancing research impact indicators.
The 2025 JCR edition covers more than 22,000 journals across 254 disciplines from over 100 countries. The report is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading benchmarks for assessing the quality and impact of scientific journals.
