Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelaziz Konsowa, has reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting African nations through education and research.

Konsowa received on Sunday a delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo led by Crispin Mbadu Phanzu, special envoy of the Congolese president, and Juliana Amato Lumumba, Congo’s candidate for Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

The meeting was held at the ministry’s headquarters in the new administrative capital.

He also highlighted Egypt’s universities as hosts to students from across the continent and emphasised co-operation with Congolese institutions.

Konsowa also noted President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s inauguration of the new Senghor University campus in Alexandria, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, as a symbol of Egypt’s role in advancing education and innovation in Africa.

Mbadu Phanzu, for his part, praised Egypt’s leadership in higher education and expressed Congo’s interest in expanding collaboration with Egyptian universities. He also sought Egypt’s support for Lumumba’s candidacy. Lumumba presented her program, focusing on cultural respect, equality, human rights, digital transformation, and training centers for youth.

The meeting included senior Egyptian officials and Congolese diplomats, with both sides stressing the importance of strengthening ties and promoting African co-operation through education and cultural exchange.
