Business Insider Africa has commended Egypt’s plan to settle all outstanding arrears owed to international oil companies by June 10, 2026, ahead of the previously targeted deadline of June 30.
The platform noted that this accelerated repayment has already encouraged major firms to resume exploration activities and advance development projects.
By clearing its debts earlier than scheduled, Egypt is sending a strong signal of its determination to boost domestic oil and gas production, secure long-term energy supplies, and reinforce its position as a leading energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
