Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi, reviewed ongoing projects and future plans aimed at developing Egypt’s communications and information technology sector.

Hindi outlined current and upcoming investment opportunities across four key areas: outsourcing services, local mobile phone manufacturing, digital infrastructure development, and the data centre industry.

He said the ministry had held talks with several major international outsourcing companies to explore expansion opportunities in Egypt and support their growth plans through 2028.

The ministry is also working on investment plans for technology parks to attract made outsourcing firms. Egypt aims to increase outsourcing exports, from about $5.2 billion last year, to $6 billion this year.

Hindi added that a co-operation protocol had been signed with the Ministry of Investment to include electronics and semiconductor design services within the export development programme.

Regarding the “Egypt Makes Electronics” strategy, the minister stressed the government’s commitment to supporting the expansion of mobile phone manufacturing by encouraging companies to increase local production and raise the share of domestically manufactured components.

He noted that 15 mobile phone brands are currently manufacturing in Egypt, with production targeted to exceed 15 million devices over the next year.

Hindi also highlighted ongoing investments in digital infrastructure, including upgrades to fixed internet networks, the replacement of copper cables with fibre-optic networks, and the rollout of 5G services nationwide.

Plans also include improving network coverage through the construction of additional telecommunications towers and the enhancement of existing infrastructure.

Around 3,000 new towers are expected to be added this year, with more than 9,000 planned over the next three years.

The minister said new frequency bands totalling 410 MHz were allocated to the country’s four telecommunications operators in February through investments worth $3.5 billion.

Since 2019, more than $6 billion has been invested in developing fixed and mobile internet services across Egypt, Hindi added.
