The Port Said for Engineering works & Naval Constructions Co, a subsidiary of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), has successfully relaunched the floating hotel Qasr Ibrim into Lake Nasser. The relaunch follows extensive repairs and maintenance conducted on a dry dock using advanced engineering technologies.

According to an SCA statement on Friday, this marks the company’s second successful relaunch in a short period, following similar maintenance on the floating hotel Eugenie. The authority emphasised that these back-to-back operations showcase the company’s capability to deliver international-standard technical services in southern Egypt.

Maintenance on the Qasr Ibrim was completed within four months. The extensive workflow included hull maintenance, the replacement of 20 tonnes of damaged steel, machinery alignment, and upgrades to the electrical systems, as well as servicing for the propellers, propeller shafts, and rudders, followed by a full repainting of the vessel.

Osama Rabie, SCA Chairman,  stated that the authority is making significant progress in upgrading its subsidiaries and boosting production efficiency. In remarks delivered on his behalf by Abdel Hakim Zakaria, Director of the SCA Companies Department, Rabie noted that providing technical support for the floating hotel behind the High Dam is a strategic step that highlights the SCA’s growing role in supporting river tourism.

This initiative aligns with an ambitious strategy to diversify revenue sources, localize marine and river industries, and transform the region into a leading African hub following the development of the Lake Nasser site.

Looking ahead, Rabie revealed plans to geographically expand SCA services through branches, shipyards, and facilities in Safaga, El Alamein, Aswan, and Luxor.

For his part, Aswan Governor Amr Lashin praised the cooperation, calling the partnership with the SCA a vital pillar for development efforts in Upper Egypt.
