Egypt’s Ministry of Culture is celebrating Labour Day with a wide range of cultural and artistic activities across the country, starting Friday and continuing throughout May.
The programme includes events in various governorates, aiming to highlight the role of workers and raise awareness about the value of work and national belonging. Minister of Culture Gehan Zaki stated that the celebration reflects the state’s appreciation of workers and their crucial role in building the nation.
She noted that the initiative seeks to promote respect for work and shed light on the traditions and values passed down through generations of Egyptian workers. The month-long programme features creative workshops, art exhibitions, poetry evenings, and live performances, along with educational seminars and storytelling sessions.
These activities focus on labour-related issues, including workers’ rights and responsibilities, and their contribution to the national economy. The initiative also includes awareness sessions on occupational safety and ways to manage work-related stress, with participation from academics, researchers, and experts.
The General Authority for Cultural Palaces is leading many of the activities in different governorates, organising Arabic music concerts, children’s choir performances, and workshops. Special attention is also given to the role of working women and their growing impact in the labour market.
