Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has ordered enhanced monitoring of healthcare facilities, medicine stocks and project implementation as part of wider efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of public health services across the country.

During a meeting on Sunday with senior ministry officials and heads of affiliated bodies, Abdel Ghaffar called for monthly review sessions involving ministry undersecretaries to identify operational challenges, assess progress, and ensure follow-up on previously agreed measures, according to ministry spokesman Houssam Abdel Ghaffar.

The minister also instructed officials to intensify regular and unannounced inspections of hospitals and healthcare facilities, with a focus on collecting direct feedback from patients and medical staff in order to address issues more rapidly, the spokesman added.

Coordination with provincial governors will also be strengthened to support healthcare development nationwide.

To improve oversight of infrastructure and development projects, the minister ordered the establishment of a real-time electronic dashboard to monitor implementation rates and financial disbursements. He also directed each health directorate to appoint a dedicated official responsible for on-the-ground project supervision.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of maintaining sufficient stocks of medicines and medical supplies through continued coordination with the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement (UPA) to prevent shortages.

The meeting also reviewed the performance of primary healthcare units, with the minister calling for urgent plans to address staffing shortages, improve operational efficiency, and continue the digitalisation of services.

In a further push to enhance service delivery, Abdel Ghaffar ordered a review of the ministry’s organisational structure to establish a dedicated unit to measure patient satisfaction, alongside a central database to track recurring complaints and inform training programmes for medical and administrative staff.

He also called for a reassessment of contracts with cleaning, security and maintenance service providers across healthcare facilities to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

The measures are part of Egypt’s broader strategy to moderniseits healthcare system and improve the quality of services provided to citizens nationwide.
