Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati underscored the importance of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the World Bank in supporting the country’s economic reform programme and sustainable development goals.

The minister’s remarks came during a meeting with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings in Washington.

The talks focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and building on the outcomes of Banga’s recent visit to Egypt, particularly regarding the next phase of development policy financing.

Abdel-Aati praised the World Bank’s support for national projects and key initiatives, including “Decent Life,” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding private sector participation as a key driver of economic growth.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the investment climate through tax and customs incentives, digital transformation, and legislative reforms.

The minister also stressed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline, strengthening debt sustainability, and advancing structural reforms.

He noted that the Egyptian economy has demonstrated resilience amid regional and global challenges, supported by measures such as adopting a flexible exchange rate.

The discussions also addressed the economic impact of regional tensions, as Abdel-Aati highlighted Egypt’s focus on securing energy supplies, enhancing food security, and preserving financial stability.

For his part, Banga praised Egypt’s reform efforts and economic performance, expressing his commitment to further strengthening cooperation to support the country’s development priorities and regional role.
