Egypt is set to unveil a newly upgraded gallery at Luxor Museum, as the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced on Monday the completion of renovation works on the Cache Hall ahead of its official reopening.
The project, carried out by the Supreme Council of Antiquities, also included the development of updated explanatory labels and the installation of new interpretive panels designed to enhance the visitor experience.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to modernise museum displays and offer a more comprehensive cultural tourism experience. He noted that the renovated hall adopts an innovative presentation concept that recreates the moment of discovery of the cache, providing visitors with an immersive view of the artefacts.
Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Hisham el-Leithy described the project as a milestone, marking the first time the entire Luxor Temple cache is displayed in a dedicated hall within the museum.
The cache comprises 26 artefacts, presented through a contextual narrative that reflects their discovery and historical significance, offering an integrated educational and visual experience.
Head of the Projects and Restoration Sector, Professor Moamen Othman, said the works included architectural upgrades such as new marble flooring, a gypsum board ceiling, improved accessibility through the addition of a ramp, and updated internal partitions and display systems. Two new display cases were also installed at the hall’s entrance.
The Luxor cache, discovered in 1989 in the courtyard of King Amenhotep III at Luxor Temple, includes royal and divine statues dating from the 18th to 25th Dynasties. The artefacts were documented and restored before being transferred to secure storage.
In parallel, the museum’s explanatory labels have been updated using revised scientific content prepared under the supervision of Hoda Khalifa, in coordination with museum curators, to ensure clarity and accessibility for visitors.
