Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and advancing negotiations toward a sustainable ceasefire during his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani late Thursday.

The meeting was held in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to enhance coordination and consultation with fellow Arab states amid rapidly evolving regional developments.

During the talks, Abdel-Aati conveyed a verbal message from President Sisi to the Iraqi premier, addressing the latest developments and Egypt’s ongoing efforts to contain escalation.

He underscored that these efforts are being pursued in coordination with regional and international partners, notably Pakistan, emphasising the need to consolidate a lasting ceasefire and create favorable conditions for a US–Iran understanding that would bring an end to the current conflict.

The foreign minister reiterated Egypt’s firm condemnation of Iran’s “unjustified and unacceptable” targeting of Gulf states, as well as Iraq and Jordan, stressing the urgent need to halt any violations of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Arab countries. He also condemned Israel’s “brutal aggression” against Lebanon, calling for full respect for Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Against the backdrop of escalating tensions and their wide-ranging repercussions, Abdel-Aati highlighted the imperative of Arab unity and solidarity at this critical juncture. He affirmed that inter-Arab relations must be grounded in mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful settlement of disputes, principles essential to strengthening ties, including between Iraq and the Gulf states.

For his part, Prime Minister al-Sudani conveyed his greetings and appreciation to President Sisi, praising his leadership and efforts to promote de-escalation, security, and regional stability.

Both sides also commended the strong momentum in bilateral relations, reaffirming their shared commitment to further expanding co-operation across various sectors in a manner that serves the interests and aspirations of the Egyptian and Iraqi peoples.
