Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir on Tuesday inspected the smart Transportation System project on the Shubra–Banha highway, being implemented by Elsewedy Electric as part of the urgent phase of development across Egypt’s national road network.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Transport said the visit comes within the framework of ongoing field follow-ups of major service projects nationwide, aimed at improving mobility, facilitating travel, and enhancing road safety.

The project forms part of a broader package covering seven strategic corridors, including the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, Cairo–Ismailia–Port Said Desert Road, Cairo–Ain Sokhna Road, Cairo–Suez Road, the Regional Ring Road, and the Ring Road around Greater Cairo.

During the tour, El-Wazir reviewed on-site progress, including the system’s infrastructure comprising equipment installed on metal gantries and poles designed to monitor and collect real-time traffic data.

He was also briefed by the executing company on the system’s key components, including operation and technical support centres, traffic management units, and a central data facility equipped with advanced applications, servers, and digital storage systems.

The system is fully powered by renewable energy, relying on solar power in line with Egypt’s broader transition toward green energy.

El-Wazir stressed the need to accelerate implementation and ensure integration with the state’s main control centre. He underscored that the project will contribute to reducing road accidents, improving safety standards, enhancing emergency response, enabling accurate detection of traffic violations, shortening travel times, and ensuring smoother traffic flow along key highways.
