President Donald Trump announced Sunday that US forces successfully rescued a second airman who had been shot down in Iran, describing the mission as “one of the most daring search-and-rescue operations in US history.”
His statement came as Iran fired missiles and drones toward Israel and Kuwait early Sunday, and one day after Trump warned that Tehran had 48 hours to reach an agreement or face “all Hell.”
Earlier on Sunday, a US official confirmed that the second crew member from the fighter jet downed in Iran had been recovered alive.
“This brave warrior was deep behind enemy lines in Iran’s rugged mountains, being hunted by our adversaries,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“He was injured, but he’s going to be okay.”
He added that this “miraculous” mission followed the successful rescue of another pilot the previous day, which had not been disclosed earlier in order to avoid jeopardizing the second operation.
