Chairman of Healthcare Authority Ahmed El-Sobky said on Tuesday that the Egypt has made major progress in kidney and urology services under the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS).

He said more than 3.25 million medical services have been delivered across several governorates. Ismailia recorded the highest number, followed by Luxor, Port Said, Aswan, Suez, and South Sinai.

The services included over 1.9 million dialysis sessions. Around 25,000 specialised urology surgeries were performed, along with 30 kidney transplants. More than one million lab and medical tests were conducted, and 55,000 emergency cases were handled, El-Sobky elaborated.

El-Sobky noted dialysis services are now available in 29 healthcare facilities. These are equipped with more than 1,000 dialysis machines. Units are digitised to ensure regular sessions in each governorate. Hospitals are also equipped with modern operating rooms, lithotripsy devices using laser and shockwave technology, and advanced endoscopy tools.

El-Sobky highlighted the 30 June International Centre for Kidney and Urology Diseases in Ismailia as a leading model. It is the first centre in the Canal region licensed for kidney transplants.

He said these achievements reflect the success of the health insurance system in improving access to high quality healthcare. He added that efforts will continue to expand services and introduce new technologies.
