Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati on Sunday took part in the 165th ordinary session of the Arab League Council, at the ministerial level.

The session was held virtually under Bahrain’s chairmanship to discuss the rapid regional developments and the recent attacks targeting several Arab countries.

Minister Abdel-Aati delivered Egypt’s address during the meeting, condemning the ‘unacceptable and unjustified Iranian attacks against Gulf Co-operation Council states, Jordan and Iraq”, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khalaf said.

Abdel-Aati added that the strikes constituted a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law, as well as undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab countries.
He also stressed Egypt’s full solidarity with the Arab states targeted by the attacks and pledged all forms of political, diplomatic and material support.

In addition, the chief diplomat reiterated Cairo’s rejection of any attempts to destabilise Arab national security, whether through direct attacks on state sovereignty, weakening national institutions or creating parallel entities outside the framework of legitimacy.

Security of Arab states is indivisible, Abdel-Aati said, adding that a threat to any of them is a threat to Egypt’s national security and to a shared Arab destiny.

The foreign minister also expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the Arab foreign ministers’ unanimous decision to recommend the nomination of former Egyptian foreign minister Nabil Fahmy as secretary-general of the Arab League.
