Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa met renowned heart surgeon Professor Magdi Yacoub on Wednesday.The meeting aimed to strengthen strategic cooperation between the ministry and the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation. It is also meant to supports efforts to develop healthcare and scientific research in Egypt and across Africa.
Konsowa said the partnership is a successful and sustainable model between the state and scientific institutions.
He noted that it reflects strong integration between government bodies and leading medical initiatives.
He added that this cooperation has improved healthcare services, especially through the Aswan Heart Centre, which operates to the highest international standards.
The minister stressed that the partnership goes beyond treatment services. According to him, It includes scientific research, medical training and capacity building. Doctors and nursing staff benefit from hands-on training at the foundation’s centres. This helps prepare qualified professionals who can keep pace with the latest developments in cardiac care and surgery.
Konsowa added that the cooperation strengthens Egypt’s regional role in supporting healthcare systems in African countries. This is achieved through sharing expertise and training medical personnel. He said this reflects Egypt’s commitment to supporting African partners.
For his part, Professor Magdi Yacoub expressed appreciation for the ministry’s continued support. He said the partnership is key to expanding advanced medical services. It also helps integrate research with clinical practice and training programmes. This contributes to better treatment outcomes and stronger healthcare systems in Egypt and Africa.
