Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has voiced deep concern over the ongoing military escalation in the region, during a telephone call on Sunday with French President Emmanuel Macron.

The call focused on the continued conflict in Iran and its grave repercussions.

“The escalation is impacting energy prices, supply chains, and air and maritime transport, not only for Egypt but across the region and internationally,” Presidency Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy said.

President Sisi condemned Iran’s targeting of Arab countries at a time when Gulf states and other regional actors have been working to de-escalate tensions and pursue a diplomatic resolution to the nuclear issue, warning that the conflict could spread and destabilise the entire region.

The two leaders also discussed developments in Gaza, and stressed the full implementation of the ceasefire, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and the initiation of early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Presidents Sisi and Macron affirmed the rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land.

The conversation extended to Lebanon, as Sisi and Macron underlined the importance of coordinated efforts, particularly among the Quintet (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the US, and France), to prevent escalation, protect Lebanon’s infrastructure, and continue supporting the Lebanese state and its institutions, particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces.

The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of resolving crises through peaceful means and intensifying regional and international efforts to contain escalation, safeguarding stability across the Middle East.

President Macron commended Egypt’s efforts pertaining to managing the current crisis, and reiterated France’s commitment to restoring peace in the region.

The call also highlighted the solid bilateral relations, as President Sisi lauded the progress of their strategic partnership since President Macron’s visit to Cairo in April 2025. He voiced Egypt’s commitment to deepening co-operation for mutual benefit.

President Macron welcomed the continued collaboration across trade, investment, industry, transportation, and education and stressed the importance of fully implementing the strategic partnership.
