Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati held a phone call on Thursday with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan to discuss regional developments amid escalating military tensions and the implications for the region’s security and stability.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the two ministers exchanged views on the rapidly evolving regional situation amid the serious military escalation currently unfolding in the region.

Both ministers stressed the urgent need to de-escalate tensions and prioritise diplomacy and political solutions. They also warned of the catastrophic consequences of continued violence and its destructive impact on regional and international peace and security.

Minister Abdel-Aati expressed Egypt’s firm rejection and condemnation of any attempts to target Türkiye or undermine its sovereignty.

He emphasised the importance of respecting the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, stressing the need for all parties to exercise restraint in order to prevent the region from sliding into broader instability.

Abdel-Aati also underlined the importance Egypt attaches to the security of strategic maritime straits, describing them as vital arteries for global trade and energy supplies.

He warned that any disruption to navigation would trigger widespread turbulence in global markets and serious repercussions for the international economy
