Egyptian Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Soha el-Gendy reviewed Egypt’s pioneering role in defending women’s rights and efforts  related to women empowerment in the peace and security fields.

El-Gendy, who also acts as the Director of the International Gatherings and Organizations Department, shed light on Egypt’s crucial role in creating the UN Women entity and the Global Alliance of Regional Women Mediator Networks.

This came during El-Gendy’s participation via a video conference in the ministerial session of the Peace and Security Council.

During her speech before the meeting, El-Gendy shed light on the participation of Egyptian women in peacekeeping forces along with the programmes implemented by the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding in Africa in co-operation with the National Council for Women (NCW), the Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its Facebook official page Wednesday.

El-Gendy also pointed out to Egypt’s successful experiment in eliminating slums in Egypt in co-operation with the UN Human Settlement Programme.

She also referred to the “Decent Life” presidential initiative, which aims to improve the living of standard to citizens living in all rural communities.
