Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti, as they called for preserving Libya’s unity and territorial integrity, while supporting Libyan state institutions.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) summit in Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa.

The two ministers agreed to continue coordination within the framework of the trilateral mechanism comprising Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia, with the aim of unifying Libya’s institutions, and securing the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters and mercenaries, as well as creating suitable conditions for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.

Abdelatty lauded the depth of historical relations between Egypt and Tunisia, citing the mutual keenness to promote bilateral cooperation in various areas, in a way that achieves the two countries’ interests and enhances joint Arab and African integration and coordination.

In this regard, the top Egyptian diplomat commended the convening of the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee in Cairo from September 8 to 11, 2025, highlighting the positive results achieved, particularly in the economic, trade and investment fields.

Abdelatty underlined the importance of the joint economic forum held on the sidelines of the joint higher committee’s meeting, stressing the need to follow up on the implementation of the committee’s outcome in the coming period and build on them to elevate bilateral relations to broader horizons.

The Egyptian foreign minister also referred to his visit to Tunisia on January 25 and 26 this year, where he held constructive meetings that reflected a shared political will to strengthen bilateral coordination and consultation at all levels, and to unify views on bilateral, regional and international issues.

The two ministers also exchanged views on a number of regional issues of mutual concern, affirming the need to reduce tensions in the region and priorities political and diplomatic solutions to crises in order to bolster regional security and stability.

The pair further underscored the significance of continued coordination and consultation within the framework of the African Union to support efforts aimed at promoting peace, security and development across the African continent, and to reinforce the role of African institutions in addressing current challenges.
