Egypt keen on elevating relation with US to comprehensive strategic partnership

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to elevate relations with the United States to a comprehensive strategic partnership and to expand economic and trade co-operation between the two countries.

President Sisi made these remarks during his meeting on Wednesday with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati and Head of the General Intelligence Service Major General Hassan Rashad, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy said.

Talks during the meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations, with President Sisi stressing that Egypt looks forward to deepeningco-operation across all fields, particularly in the economic and trade spheres. In this context, he expressed Egypt’s interest in convening the second round of the Egyptian-American Economic Forum in 2026.

For his part President Trump, voiced strong appreciation for the longstanding partnership between the two countries in the political, military and economic domains. He commended President Sisi’s role in advancing development in Egypt and his efforts to promote political stability and regional peace, according to the spokesman.

The meeting also addressed regional issues of mutual concern. President Sisi welcomed President Trump’s initiative to establish a Gaza Board of Peace and the role envisaged for it in advancing peace and resolving conflicts. He praised President Trump’s pivotal role in ending the war in Gaza and initiating the implementation of the second phase of the agreement.

President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to exert all efforts to ensure full implementation of the agreement, while stressing the need to immediately launch early recovery efforts as a prelude to reconstruction, alongside scaling up humanitarian assistance in view of the dire conditions facing the Palestinian people.

The two presidents also reviewed joint efforts to end the war in Sudan within the framework of the Quartet. President Sisi welcomed US efforts in this regard, underscoring the urgency of reaching an immediate humanitarian truce and intensifying international action to ease the suffering of the Sudanese people.

President Sisi further expressed appreciation for President Trump’s interest in the Nile water issue, describing it as an existential and pivotal matter for Egypt. He noted that US sponsorship of efforts to resolve this long-standing issue could open new prospects for a long-awaited breakthrough. The president reiterated Egypt’s commitment to establishing cooperative mechanisms with Nile Basin countries in a manner that serves shared interests and is consistent with international law.

The meeting also touched on developments in Lebanon, with President Sisi stressing the importance of the US role in halting violations of Lebanese sovereignty, in a way that enables state institutions to assume their responsibilities and extend their authority across the entire Lebanese territory.
