The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) concluded the activities of the Regional Training Workshop on Seasonal Climate Forecasting (WISER MENA SCAPE), organised in co-operation with the UK Met Office under the WISER MENA programme. The programme aims to support the development of climate services in the Arab region and enhance the capacity of specialised professionals.

The closing day was attended by navigator Hisham Hassan Tahoun, Chairman of the Board of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, along with a number of EMA leaders and international and local experts.

Certificates of appreciation were distributed to trainers, experts, and trainees from various Arab countries.

The workshop brought together trainees from 14 Arab countries, including Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Mauritania, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to experts from the UK Met Office and a distinguished group of specialists from the Egyptian Meteorological Authority.

Hisham Tahoun affirmed that organising this workshop aligns with the strategy of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to strengthen regional and international co-operation in advanced climate forecasting.

He noted that it represents a pivotal step in developing seasonal forecasting systems in the Arab region and supporting adaptation efforts to the impacts of climate change.

He added that this event is part of a series of training programmes implemented by the Authority in its capacity as one of the regional centres accredited by the World Meteorological Organisation, with the aim of disseminating the latest scientific knowledge and modernising observation and forecasting technologies to support sustainable development plans at both the national and regional levels.

The workshop concluded with expressions of thanks to the experts and trainers from Egypt and the United Kingdom, and with an emphasis on the importance of continuing to implement new training programmes in the coming phase under the WISER programme to enhance the readiness of Arab countries to climate challenges.
