Saudi Arabia has once again taken a bold step in elevating its tourism landscape with the unveiling of the Saudi’s dream desert luxury train at the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh. This ultra-luxury train marks the Kingdom’s first venture into high-end rail tourism, blending Italian craftsmanship with Saudi heritage. It aligns seamlessly with the broader goals of Vision 2030, aiming to enhance the Kingdom’s global appeal while providing travelers with unique, world-class experiences. Alongside this development, recent Saudi Arabia business news highlights economic growth, real estate expansion, and foreign investment surges that further support such ambitious projects.

A New Era of Luxury Rail Travel

The Dream of the Desert train, set to launch in late 2026, is a collaborative effort between Italy’s Arsenale Group and Saudi Arabia Railways, with support from the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, the Transport General Authority, Ministry of Culture, and the Saudi Tourism Authority. According to Paolo Barletta, CEO of Arsenale, the train “celebrates heritage, creativity, and a deep respect for local identity while carrying the world’s most discerning travelers through Saudi Arabia’s landscapes and traditions.”

Key Features and Amenities

  • Private Accommodations: The train offers 31 private suites and two presidential suites, accommodating up to 66 guests.
  • Interior Design: Inspired by the Saudi desert, interiors feature warm desert hues, intricate wood carvings, and custom Murano glass lighting reminiscent of traditional oriental lanterns.
  • Dining Experience: Two restaurant cars provide guests with Michelin-level cuisine, including authentic local dishes and international menus with Italian fusion influences.
  • Social Spaces: A central Majlis lounge creates a relaxing environment for socializing, entertainment, or quiet reflection.

The train’s inaugural journeys will span approximately 1,300 km, departing from Riyadh and lasting one to two nights, allowing travelers to experience the Kingdom’s diverse landscapes in unparalleled comfort.

Tourism and Global Engagement

The launch of the Dream of the Desert train coincides with Saudi Arabia hosting the 26th session of the UN Tourism General Assembly, emphasizing the Kingdom’s growing role in the global tourism sector. More than 160 delegates from around the world gathered in Riyadh for the assembly, the first of its kind in a Gulf Cooperation Council country.

Key discussions focused on:

  • Sustainability: Introducing UN Tourism Awards for Excellence in Sustainable Sports Tourism powered by FIA.
  • Innovation and Technology: Leveraging AI and digital tools to enhance tourism services.
  • Global Collaboration: Public-private partnerships to advance tourism infrastructure and expertise.

Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb highlighted the importance of tourism as a driver of economic prosperity and cultural exchange, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to Vision 2030’s goals.

Economic Growth and Investment Opportunities

Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification efforts continue to impact the property and investment sectors positively:

  • Real Estate Surge: Office rents in Riyadh have risen 15% year-on-year, with occupancy rates reaching 98%. The King Abdullah Financial District is at the heart of this expansion, featuring infrastructure improvements like the 3.6-km monorail and plans to accommodate 40,000 daily visitors.
  • SME Support: The Biban Forum 2025 saw over $2 billion pledged for SMEs and entrepreneurial initiatives, supporting local innovation, e-commerce, and cultural ventures.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions: MENA region M&A activity reached $69.1 billion in the first nine months of 2025, with Saudi and UAE-based investors leading outbound investments in technology, energy, and consumer sectors.

These developments underscore a strategic environment encouraging both domestic and foreign investments, creating opportunities for growth across multiple industries.

Vision 2030 in Action

The Dream of the Desert train exemplifies how Saudi Arabia is transforming its infrastructure, tourism, and business ecosystems. By integrating ultra-luxury travel, international standards of hospitality, and local heritage, the Kingdom not only attracts high-end tourists but also showcases the potential of its economic diversification policies.

Conclusion

Saudi Arabia’s first ultra-luxury train, the Dream of the Desert, represents more than just a new mode of travel; it reflects a broader vision of global engagement, economic growth, and cultural celebration. With strategic investments in tourism, real estate, and entrepreneurship, the Kingdom is setting new benchmarks for innovation and luxury while staying true to its rich heritage. As Vision 2030 continues to unfold, projects like this train will play a pivotal role in positioning Saudi Arabia as a world-class destination for discerning travelers and investors alike.
