CAIRO – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Indian Minister of Health, Family Welfare, Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri J.P. Nadda participated in the activities of the Egyptian-Indian roundtable.

The roundtable focuses on ways to cooperate in localising the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries and exchanging expertise between the two sides.

Abdel Ghaffar asserted that Egyptian-Indian relations are witnessing qualitative development in the fields of health, medicine, and vaccines, noting that the Egyptian state pays great attention to localizing vital industries and achieving self-sufficiency in medicine and vaccines, in implementation of the political leadership’s directives, to enhance the state’s health and pharmaceutical security.

The minister explained that Egypt possesses an integrated system for the registration and quality control of medicines and vaccines through the Egyptian Drug Authority.

He referred also to the unified procurement system that provides a supportive investment climate for global companies.

He pointed out that the ministry is working on creating permanent partnerships that contribute to building a national pharmaceutical and vaccine industry based on advanced scientific and technological foundations.

Abdel Ghaffar said that cooperation with the Indian side is considered a strategic step, especially since India is one of the largest producers of medicines and vaccines in the world and possesses extensive expertise in research and development.

The meeting discussed opportunities for joint manufacturing, technology transfer, and establishing partnerships between Egyptian and Indian companies to meet local and regional market needs.

The minister noted that the roundtable aimed to establish an executive framework for Egyptian-Indian cooperation in the production of medicines, vaccines, and medical supplies, affirming that the ministry welcomes all initiatives supporting industrial development in the health sector to serve sustainable development goals.
