CAIRO– Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’ directives focus on consolidating strategic partnerships with the countries and peoples of the Horn of Africa.

He said these partnerships aim to promote security, development, and regional stability.

This came in an opinion article by Abdelatty titled “Reaffirming Egypt’s Strategic Role in the Horn of Africa Amid Turbulence,” published by South Africa’s News24, one of the continent’s most prominent news outlets.

The article forms part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to highlight its pivotal role in the Horn of Africa region.

In his article, the foreign minister underscored the strategic significance of the Horn of Africa, describing it as a natural extension and integral component of Egypt’s national security due to its connection with both the Red Sea and the Nile Basin.

He reviewed Egypt’s active diplomatic engagement in the region over the past two years.

He also stressed that Egypt’s national security is closely intertwined with the security of the Red Sea and the Nile Basin.

Abdelatty also cautioned against attempts by certain regional actors to export internal crises and destabilize the region.

He noted that Egypt pursues a comprehensive approach to restoring strategic balance in the Horn of Africa through the effective deployment of its diplomatic, economic, and cultural tools.

He added that Cairo responded to Somalia’s request to contribute military and police personnel to the new African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

He further noted that Egypt is strengthening cooperation with Djibouti, Eritrea, Kenya, and Somalia in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and education.
