The Alam Almal Press, Printing and Publication foundation honored Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait among the 2021 most influential figures in the fields of economy and sustainable development.

This came in appreciation of his tangible efforts to serve the nation, professional financial management of the state resources and promoting the national economic infrastructure, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

Moreover, Maait managed to use modern technology in enhancing governance, boosting the efficiency of public expense and stepping up efforts to merge non-official economy into the official one.

During the honouring ceremony, Maait said without the strong political will and supportive policies of the government, he would not have succeeded to efficiently implement the economic reform programme in a way that drew praise of international financing institutions.

He underlined the state’s keenness to proceed with the development march for a better future based on securing decent life for citizens in a new republic whose pillars were laid down by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi – whom he described as the “dream maker” for Egyptians.

He said the Egyptian economy is in good condition and became even stronger to achieve financial performance indices surpassing expectations of financing institutions.

He added that the initial surplus stood at LE3.2 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year despite of an unprecedented rise in expense rate.

He referred to securing funds for mega national projects which created millions of jobs, including the presidential initiative of Decent Life.

He noted that the World Bank raised its expectations of the Egyptian economic growth rate to 5.5 per cent in 2022.

He added that Egypt managed to decrease budget deficit by 50 per cent in five years.
