Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Egypt Sergei Terentiev asserted that there is common understanding between Cairo and Minsk at the political level towards a set of regional and international issues and progressing trade, industrial and economic ties.
The ambassador’s remarks were made on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Egypt and Belarus celebrated on February 1 every year.
He said the Belarusian Embassy will organize a political, economic, touristic and sports activities this year to celebrate this occasion.
The ambassador also made it clear that a high-level bilateral and political dialogue committee will convene soon under the co-chairmanship of the two countries’ foreign ministers, in addition to the Economic Forum of Belarus-Africa that will be held in Cairo.
He also said talks are currently underway with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture to organise days on the Belarusian culture to get the Egyptians acquainted with its unique traditions.
The diplomat said Egypt was among the first countries which recognised Belarus and has established diplomatic ties with Minsk since 1992, noting that Cairo’s support was very important and necessary for his country’s independence move.
In 2014, the two countries’ ties witnessed a big leap in light of the two leaders’ strong political resolve to bolster bilateral ties, the ambassador noted, highlighting the friendship and understanding between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.
He also went on to say that he has been following with great respect and enthusiasm the efforts exerted by the Egyptian leadership to change the social and economic conditions in Egypt via a set of national programmes, citing the presidential initiative of “Decent Life” and other mega infrastructure projects to achieve progress and welfare for the Egyptian people.
