CAIRO – A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture concluded a successful visit to The Netherlands to explore the possibility of turning Egypt into a regional and global hub for the production and export of certified seed potatoes.
The visit comes upon directives from Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk.
In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said the visit was organised in coordination with the Dutch Embassy in Cairo.
The delegation reviewed the latest Dutch systems for seed testing and certification, as well as the regulatory role of relevant Dutch authorities.
The visit aims at developing a comprehensive governance framework in Egypt to ensure quality control and traceability of seed potatoes.
The delegation also attended the “Potato Europe 2025” exhibition, where they were introduced to the latest global potato varieties and held bilateral meetings with producers, exporters, and importers.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, the delegation participated in a panel discussion titled “Egypt as a Seed Hub,” where they presented available investment opportunities and outlined government efforts to expand markets for Egyptian seed and propagation material exports.
