CAIRO – Hussein Rashad, Director General of the Northern Region Protectorates at the Ministry of Environment, stressed that Egypt serves as the world’s second most important migratory route for birds.
In a phone interview with the “This Morning” programme broadcast on Extra News channel early Sunday, Rashad said the ministry attaches importance to preserving the environment and protecting migratory birds, noting that it implements strict measures to prevent hunting within natural reserves.
Among the ministry’s main tasks is monitoring official hunting along the Mediterranean coast during the bird migration season, he said.
He reiterated the importance of protecting migratory birds, saying the ministry is not limited to just removing illegal hunting within natural reserves, but it also seek to establish safe corridors for birds during their migration.
He referred to the awareness efforts undertaken by the ministry where hunters are educated on the importance of preserving migratory birds.
