The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA), through its Cairo Regional Training Centre — an institution accredited by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) in Geneva — has successfully organised a specialised training programme for a group of trainees from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The programme, titled “Meteorological Technician,” aims to enhance regional co-operation and elevate professional standards in the field.
Navigator Hisham Tahoun, President of the EMA, stated that the training programme underscores the authority’s dedication to improving the skills of meteorology professionals at every level. “This initiative prepares qualified personnel according to the highest technical and scientific standards,” Tahoun said. “Upon completion, trainees will receive an internationally recognised license, enabling them to work professionally in fields that require accurate weather monitoring and observation.”
Tahoun further highlighted that the EMA seeks to strengthen co-operation with Arab nations and facilitate the exchange of expertise in meteorology and climate monitoring.
The 26-week program is designed to equip technical staff with the necessary skills to forecast weather and monitor climate phenomena, preparing them to earn a “junior meteorologist” work license. The curriculum combines theoretical lectures with hands-on training using amazing equipment at monitoring stations.
It also covers the fundamentals of meteorology, climate data analysis, and the preparation of daily weather reports and bulletins.
